The Club has a strong membership, which has grown rapidly over the past few years. Many of the members play in the various leagues, however it's not for everyone and those who simply enjoy the mêlée evenings are welcome to just enjoy those!!

Each year we hold our annual club events: a Triples Competition in May, a Doubles Competition in July and a Singles Competition in August/September. These competitions are for Club members only and have always been a success. We start the competition around 11:30am and finish late afternoon - depending on the quality of the finals!! We traditionally have a 'bring a plate' buffet style lunch and have been very lucky with the variety of food people bring - so far!!

As well as our Club events we also hold 2 others. The first is a day to remember the landlord who brought the sport to the pub. This is Henry's Day and has a mêlée format and the trophy is up for grabs by anyone who gets a bit of his luck on the day!! The second is a fundraiser BBQ held in July, where we have lots of fun and games, even a little bit of boules...

The Wheatsheaf Pétanque Club has 3 teams in the BIG League. The A Team and B Team both play in Division 1, which is always a closely fought battle until the very last few weeks. The C Team have just been promoted into Division 2 this year - well done the C Team!! This team has been set up to enable any new players to experience playing the game competitively. The BIG League matches are played on a Monday night at 7pm, except on Bank Holidays when they are played on a Tuesday.

The WPA League is a more competitive league and not for the faint hearted!! We have 2 teams who play in this league. The A Team play in Division 1 and did particularly well this year, finishing runners up in the league - well done team!! Our other team are known as the Wheatsheaf Squirrels and had a brilliant season this year. They won their division and are now promoted to Division 2. They also came runners up in the Cup Competition held in October. The WPA League matches are played on Tuesday or Wednesday nights at 7:30pm.
